A Day in the Life of an Electrical Drafter

Electrical Drafter

As an Electrical Drafter, you would create technical illustrations that are used as visual aids for complex equipment, such as communication hubs or power plant wiring. Electrical drafters design the technical schematics for transmission and distribution lines that deliver electricity to consumers. The drawings are often used by electrical workers who are installing or repairing equipment, and may include information such as dimensions and procedures often requested by installation crew, engineers, or an architect.

Your daily duties may include…

Utilizing computer-aided drafting equipment or conventional drafting stations, technical books, tables, calculators, and traditional drafting tools (boards, pencils, protractors and T-squares) to draft working drawings, wiring diagrams, and wiring connection specifications. Electrical drafters review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity of standards and regulations. They also work closely with engineering staff and other personnel to resolve problems.
